About the course
The course plays through mature stands of oak, birch, maple, and pine trees and was expanded to 18 holes for the 1998 season. Although the course features a fairly short 4,724-yard par 68 layout, golfers should not take Acton too lightly. Exceptionally tight, tree-lined fairways and water in play on just about every hole, means a golfer always has their hands full just staying out of trouble.
More difficulty is found on Acton’s large greens which are all well protected by water and/or sand. Uneven surfaces and hard to read slopes make putting a challenge. At less than 375 yards the 13th hole is a deceptively difficult par five that provides a terrific risk/rewards challenge. A creek crossing the fairway about 80 yards in front of the green on this dogleg left, offers long hitters an opportunity for birdie. Miss your approach shot, however, and you’re looking at a bogey or worse.
Add a refreshing lunch on the deck, and it’s a great country escape, which is surprisingly close to the city. It truly is ‘worth the drive to Acton’.
